T-Ball is a junior development sport for both softball and baseball and is open to children aged 4 to 8 years. The focus is on fun, participation and learning the basic skills needed to progress into baseball and softball. Once children turn 8 they have a choice to progress into the local softball or baseball competitions.
Baseball and softball have both been Olympic sports and both have grassroot competitions with opportunities to progress to state, national and international levels. But what are the differences between baseball and softball?
Softball is predominantly played by women on a smaller (60 feet) diamond with a bigger ball which is pitched underarm. Baseball is played predominantly by men on a 90 ft diamond and uses a smaller ball which is pitched overarm.
